Even though a large company providing trusted assurance, tax, financial advisory and consulting services, BDO sets a strong emphasis on community involvement. Annually, BDO, USA LLP facilitates its “Week of Service” as a part of its year-round “BDO Counts” initiative. BDO Counts is the firm’s ongoing community outreach program that promotes its professionals to give back to the communities that the company does business with.
BDO prides itself on providing service to the community for the last 100 years. Through its active involvement, BDO continues to promote volunteerism throughout the community while protecting the environment. This year’s week of service is will be occurring from September 18 to 21. BDO Tampa plans on participating in two events this year: to volunteer with Lutheran Services of Florida and the other to participate in a river/coastal cleanup.
When volunteering with Lutheran Services of Florida, the professionals will have the option of assisting in the classrooms at Head Start/Early Head Start or to participate in administrative assistance. The duties involved with volunteering as a classroom assistant includes reading to kids, assisting with art projects, or helping teachers to get organized. On the other hand, as an administrative assistant, the volunteer will help to organize, file, answer phones, or perform data entry.
As a volunteer for the River or Coastal Cleanup, the professionals will collect items and record the data to identify the amount and various types of littered items. Additionally, other BDO offices throughout Florida offer many other volunteer opportunities such as a Kayak Trip for a 2-3 hour cleanup from the Peace River down to Ft. Meade. Another cleanup opportunity offered by BDO in Florida will take place in a chain of lakes around the Orlando area.
BDO strives to embody corporate responsibility while organizing and supporting national and local initiatives. Therefore, from incorporating grass-roots community service initiatives, BDO endeavors to reduce energy consumption to help people thrive every day.
Last year, during its “Week of Service”, 978 BDO professionals volunteered more than 3,000 hours of their time and raised funds for worthy causes, impacting approximately 10,000 people.
From nationwide programs to local service initiatives, BDO allows for the professionals from all offices with the opportunity to give back to their communities wherever they choose. Furthermore, its sustainability program, BDO Green, is comprised of a wide-range of both national and local sponsored grassroots initiatives to help decrease the impact on the environment. Through its Week of Service, not only are the professionals able to give back to the community, but also reduce our environmental footprint.
