A Life-Changing Ultimatum
Freddy’s story began with a pivotal moment in his childhood—an ultimatum given to him by police: spend time in jail or go to the Boys & Girls Club. Alongside four other boys, he chose the latter, setting him on a path that would ultimately define his life’s work. Initially, his involvement with the Club was to fulfill a community service requirement, but it quickly became something more. Recognizing their potential, the Club offered Freddy and his peers free memberships—with one condition: they had to stay out of trouble.
Support That Made Graduation Possible
Freddy shared how, at one point, he didn’t believe he would graduate high school. But the Boys & Girls Club believed in him when he didn’t believe in himself. A club member provided guidance, encouragement, and a clear plan for success, helping him not only to graduate but to envision a future beyond high school.
Turning Disappointment into Determination
One of the most defining moments in Freddy’s journey came when a Club field trip was canceled due to funding cuts. Learning that the governor had vetoed funding, he was deeply disappointed—but rather than accepting defeat, he took action. Determined to prevent future cuts, he set his sights on becoming a lobbyist. This decision led him to attend the University of Florida, where he developed the skills and knowledge to advocate for the very programs that had changed his life.

Now, as CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast and Tampa Bay, Freddy Williams is a leader dedicated to empowering young people.
